David is one of Michelangelo's scultpures that is known by many. Not only does the sculpture show Michelangelo's early style, it also portrays the detail given to the shape of one's body. Now known as a symbol of Florence, it was first carved out of a block of marble that was almost ruined. David is easily Michelangelo's most famous piece. It was started in 1501.

Michelangelo was, among other things, a famous painter, artist, sculptor, and poet from the Renaissance. A Florentine, Michelangelo was employed by the Pope's for his artistic talent and skill. He is often considered the last great man of Italy's golden age of Art.
